REDDITCH face an anxious wait which could stretch for another three weeks to learn the final results of the North Midlands one promotion scramble.

A topsy-turvy title race took another couple of twists at the weekend but with the Kingfishers doing their bit with a 29-18 win at Tenbury they are still in the thick of it.

Neil Hodgkinson scored two tries, Mark Morris went over and notched two conversions and Andy Irvine and Ron Skelton added scores to push the hosts into the relegation zone and hoist Redditch to second with one league game to go.

But despite their lofty position, the Bromsgrove Road side are far from certain of a top two finish and an instant return to Midlands West Four South.

Leaders Veyseyans beat Edwardians 13-10 to dent their promotion hopes and third placed Yardley went down to a surprise 11-6 loss to lowly Bishops Castle.

The upshot leaves four teams capable of finishing on 26 points and to further complicate matters whilst Redditch and Veyseyans have one match each to play, Yardley have two and Edwardians have to squeeze in three.

With teams allowed until May 28 to finish their league programme, Redditch need to win their final league game at home to rivals Five Ways Old Edwardians on Saturday (ko 3pm) and see what everyone else does.

If final positions are decided on points difference, Redditch are well adrift with 80 compared to Veyseyans (184), Yardley (118) and Edwardians (120).

Mark Rose's side cannot reach Veyseyans and with Yardley bound to rack up the points against whipping boys Warley, Redditch need two of their three rivals to drop points.
