PEOPLE living in Droitwich look set to be better represented by their councillors if proposed ward changes are given the go-ahead.

The new draft changes for boundary and wards in the Wychavon area propose that the Spa is split into five wards instead of the existing three.

The changes aim to even out the number of people being represented by a district councillor in each area.

There will be a public consultation over the next month and if they are given the green light the proposals will leave the existing Droitwich Central and Droitwich West ward, scrap Droitwich South and form three new wards - Droitwich South East, Droitwich South West and Droitwich East.

Welcoming the changes Cllr Peter Pinfield (Lab, Droit.West) said: "I think these proposed changes are fine and will allow voters to get closer to their councillors.

"It will balance out the number of voters in each ward, making it fairer and easier for some townspeople to get in touch with their councillor and they will probably be better represented by them."

Leader of the local Tories, Cllr Pam Davey, said: "I am pleased with the new proposals and look forward to smaller wards which are better represented by their councillors."

The draft plan has been put forward by the Boundary Committee for England which welcomes the public's views.
