PARTY poopers from the Spa are snubbing celebrations for this year's Golden Jubilee.
Only one street in Droitwich has asked permission to host a street party, in stark contrast to 1977 when the town's streets were filled with people celebrating the Queen's Silver Jubilee.
Wychavon District Council has confirmed that it's processing just a single application for a cul-de-sac in the south of the town.
But to encourage town folk to get into the jubilee spirit, the authority is waiving the £55 charge for road closures and fees of between £120 and £1,000 for a public entertainment licence.
Both are needed of safety reasons.
Wychavon environmental health committee chairman Cllr Don Lawley (Con, Droit.South) is disappointed by the levels of public apathy.
The former town mayor said: "There have been lots of applications across the district, but just one in Droitwich Spa. Gone are the days when communities took to the street to celebrate national events together.
"Years ago communities had lived together for hundreds of years, but now people move onto new housing estates and often don't event know their neighbours.
"It's sad but that's modern life," added Cllr Lawley.
"I'm sure there will be residents and organisations who do make an effort, but I don't think we shall ever see jubilee celebration on the same scale as before," he added.
The district council must consult with the police and highways chiefs before granting approval.
In 1977 the public showed great enthusiasm for the Silver Jubilee and the party atmosphere spread to many roads in Droitwich.
