WARNDON Parish Council says its warnings about parking problems at the new Worcestershire Royal Hospital were ignored.

It also believes the congestion around the site will become worse when new offices are built nearby.

Many residents have already complained about the problems they have encountered with parking spilling over on to the Ronkswood estate.

At a council meeting, parish member David Bailey said he had received complaints from angry residents who said it was often impossible for delivery vehicles or visitors to park near their houses.

He said residents on Leopard Rise and Oaklands were particularly badly affected, with parked cars making bends on the road more dangerous than before.

Residents were still complaining about problems between 8am and 6pm on weekdays.

"There are extra cars parked on one side of the road, and, coming out of Oaklands, you have to go on the wrong side of the road," he said.

"If something's coming the other way, something's got to give. It has become hazardous."

He said the problem would become worse when two new office blocks were built, with 600 more people being employed there.

Parish member David Eastwood said he was amazed that there was not a bigger car park at the hospital site.

"They were told that there wasn't enough car parking space, but they went ahead with it anyway," said council clerk Les Bishop.

Work on 300 extra spaces at the hospital has not started yet because of delayed planning permission.

But parish member Andrew Philpott said they should find out what was going to happen when the nearby office blocks were opened.

Mr Bailey pointed out that the hospital was going to charge staff for parking, which would also force some out onto the roads.

"I can see double yellow lines or residents' parking permits coming soon," said Councillor Eastwood.
