We want to see ‘real’ women in magazines

A PLUS size model from Malvern has backed a campaign to see more ‘real’ women featured in magazines.

As previously reported in your Worcester News, Lucy Shropshall, who is a size 14-16 and lives in Leigh Sinton, near Malvern, has modelled for designers such as Monsoon, Marks & Spencer, Evans, LK Bennett, Hobbs and Azendi. She has also featured in Italian Vogue.

But the 27-year-old, who was passed over for the catwalk show at London Fashion Week featuring size 12-14 models for being “too big”, has put her name – and face – to an MP’s campaign for body confidence.

Miss Shropshall, who works for Worcestershire County Council, is backing Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson’s campaign, which was launched this month.

The MP is using the campaign to focus on issues such as body image, health, well-being and media literacy coaching.

She is also fighting to tackle body image pressure by requiring advertisers to label all advertisements disclosing the extent of digital retouching of images of people in the media.

Miss Shropshall said: “As far as the campaign for body confidence is concerned, I am a big fan.  “No one has perfect porcelain skin or a cellulite-free bum.  All people have flaws and that’s what makes them interesting.  “Everyone has their own hang-ups about their body but real people realise that in the end, it’s not worth worrying about.  “Who wants to go through life without seeing their laughter lines and all the memories they have made?  Not me – where’s the fun in that?”

She also spoke of her support for Miss Natural Curves UK, which aims to promote healthy, beautiful girls from a size eight-16 to be featured more in the fashion world.

I really don't know who is telling these models or the designers that being so skinny is beautifull in fact they look ill and are what most men would call Stick Insects.
So good luck to this venture, lets see some real women.

Some lesbo overtones in this people...the LDs need to clear this up pronto!!!! But besides that, just what the f*ck is a size 14-16 bird doing trying to get in on 12-14 catwalk show? Of course she'll be rejected! Or is this case of a soon to be axed WCC employee advertising herself for potential (none there) work? Very sad!

What a nasty twisted homophobic sexist foul mouthed comment.
Well done, drbeat, you appear to have covered more than half of the population in your little rant.
Murray, I think you should leave this comment in as an example. Perhaps if drbeat has sobered up this morning, he/she will be embarrassed by it.

I certainly hope so what a foul comment to women everywhere. Good luck with the campaign.
