RED Lion Falcons put an end to the last remaining Division Four unbeaten record on Sunday when they triumphed 2-1 over Virgin Sports at Perdiswell and made it five league wins on the trot to boot.

VIRGIN SPORTS 1, RED LION FALCONS 2

It was a physical affair against a side who had only conceded nine goals in the league, and it was a game in which both defences came out with flying colours.

The Falcons were under pressure early on, conceding several corners but goalkeeper Shane Oseman, making his debut, dealt well with anything that came his way.

John Rose and Justin Senter battled bravely in the Perdiswell mud to impress their control on the game, but they were left powerless when the home side's winger cut inside and unleashed a brilliant shot from 20 yards which sailed over Oseman to give Virgin the lead on 34 minutes.

The Lion were level just before half time, Rose collected a loose ball inside his own half, and immediately set Jenkinson free down the middle. With the coolness of a seasoned campaigner young Jenkinson slotted home his 20th goal of the season.

After the break, with their belief growing, the Falcons continued to defend doggedly, with several last ditch tackles frustrating Sports.

The moment that changed the game came on 69 minutes. Injured Jenkinson withdrew from the action and his replacement Jez Williams found Scott Senter with his first touch. Senter sped past his marker, drew the keeper out, before rounding him and rolling the ball into the empty net.

The last quarter was to be a scrappy affair, with Sports throwing everything they could at the Falcons. But they held firm.

Justin Senter received the man of the match vote for the second week running.

This Sunday the Falcons are at home in the league. Players meet at the Chase at 9.45am.
