Fundraisers from Malvern Priory have reached the £250,000 mark in their quest to raise £400,000 to save the church's organ.
But compare that to 50 years ago, when it all seemed somewhat cheaper.
The Malvern Gazette reported that just £700 was needed for a thorough overhaul.
Organist and choirmaster J Durham Hollis, explained in the paper: "After 25 years of continuous work and the action of accumulated dirt and dust, deterioration has set in and much of the leather work is in a perishable condition. It is to prevent further damage that the present overhaul and cleaning is taking place."
The work was predicted to take three months, during which time the instrument would be out of commission.
