LIKE your correspondents, L S and S Davies, I am saddened to see the Christmas tree on the Cathedral Roundabout removed so early on New Year's Eve.

Unfortunately, experience has shown that, if this were not the case, the tree and its expensive illuminations would be unlikely to survive another 24 hours. Drunken revellers and other yobbos attempting to climb the tree soon see to that.

Reluctantly, I have to concede that this prudent precaution ensures the illuminations can be stored away and used to delight residents and visitors another year.
