TAMWORTH 1 WORCESTER 2

WORCESTER Norton started the second half of their DTZ League campaign in determined style, overcoming a resiliant Tamworth side in difficult conditions.

They dominated for long periods of the first half but good possession and build-up play could not be converted into goals until the lively Dave Steer scored with a clever deflected shot.

The lead didn't last long, however, and after being awarded a short corner Tamworth converted following a scrappy goalmouth melee.

After the break Worcester again started the stronger with numerous attacks splitting a tiring home def-ence, but still not being able to convert territorial advantage into goals.

However, when the travelling side needed the goal to maintain their position James Cosh stepped up from defence, collected the ball on the edge of the Tamworth circle, and slammed it into the bottom corner of the goal.

Worcester continued to attack and survived a few minor scares, with newcomer Mark Rushton preventing a certain goal and taking the full force of a powerful shot in the knee.

Worcester entertain Telford on Saturday (2pm) at the University College Worcester, and then travel to Melton on the Sunday.

Martin was later given an almost identical chance which he managed to convert. Worcester kept up the pressure and Gareth Patterson added two goals to the tally.
