IF you saw Nearly Dan at Worcester's Huntingdon Hall when they performed their outstanding Steely Dan tribute show at the venue back in March 2000, then you'll know what to expect.
If you didn't, their return date is on Saturday, January 26, and prepare to be impressed.
Steely Dan were one of the most revered jazz-inflected rock groups of the 70s, whose intricate arrangements and vocal harmonies were streets ahead of most of their peers.
Dan fans might justifiably be suspicious of bands claiming to replicate the unique musical vision that Walter Becker and Donald Fagan perfected over a series of groundbreaking albums.
But Nearly Dan, a ten-piece from the Stoke-on-Trent area, have perfected a remarkable recreation of the signature Steely Dan sound, complete with horn section and female backing vocalists.
The band's performances have won them friends wherever they go and as leader and keyboard player Gary Davies says: "Steely Dan fans are a meticulous lot and playing their music is one of those things that you have to do well if you're going to do it at all."
