TWO car crashes just yards from the scene of the accident in which a young couple were killed three weeks ago have led to renewed calls by residents for a change in speed limit.

The accidents took place at around 8.30am last Saturday (January 12), leaving a Renault Clio and a Nissan badly damaged.

One of the vehicles over-turned after travelling round a bend, which is similar to what happened on December 29, when a car carrying Paul Kitsull and Cheryl Lewis collided with a roadside barn killing them both.

Police confirmed that no one was hurt in Saturday's incidents, although both drivers were taken to Ronkswood Hospital as a precaution.

The stretch of the A4104 next to Timberwood Yard was blocked off for a short time and the last police officer left the scene at 10.25am.

A police spokesman said the road had been "extremely icy" that morning.

John Lamb, a resident of nearby West Bank, said he would be gathering signatures from his neighbours' to add to a letter to the Highways Partnership, Upton Town Council and Worcestershire County Council protesting that the speed limit should be changed.

He and fellow residents feel that the current 60pmh limit is too fast for the road and should be lowered to 40mph.

In a recent letter to Up-ton Town Council, Mike Davis, head of the Highways Partnership Unit, said that at a meeting between officers and residents last year, it was agreed that hedges along the side of the road should be cut back to increase visibility. This has not yet been done.
