With reference to the comments by Coun Pat Raven (Malvern Gazette, January 11) concerning the road crossing the common, I agree the road is hazardous to pedestrians and has a blind spot on the brow of the hill. She is incorrect in stating the Tennyson Drive estate was built 12-15 years ago, in fact it was built mainly between 1978 - 1980. My parents moved to the estate in 1979 and I lived there to 1992 and I have walked and driven the road thousands of times.
A footpath across the common would be the better solution as opposed to road closure. I am sure the Conservators could spare a yard or two on one side of the road to make a footpath, also some lighting would be beneficial.
I would suggest the residents of the estate would not appreciate a closed road as this would add time to any journey and they would also get stuck at yet another set of traffic lights, which in recent years have been introduced all over Malvern.
Also over the years this particular road has been used in great frequency by the emergency services and I am sure they would not appreciate its closure.
