I agree wholeheartedly with Anthony Hopwood (Your Letters, January 4) and his idea of a light electric railway to the top of the Hills. This would provide disabled people with access to the top, and also parents with young children for whom it is too long a walk.

Another group of people who might make more use of the hills if such a facility was provided is teenagers and children. Not too many of them want to go for long walks around the hills; the light railway could combine with a summer toboggan run as they have in many places such as the Tyrol in Austria, and many of the hilly areas of Germany. They take up very little space, just two parallel tracks running down the hill. The toboggans could go up on the backs of the railway carriages, and it would certainly attract a lot more young people onto the hills, as well as more tourists in from surrounding areas. Summer toboggans runs are really good fun for children and adults alike, and would also bring in income to reimburse some of the costs.

Much money has been spent on culture and heritage in the past few years, but very little on facilities for young people. I think it is time they had a share in what Malvern has to offer.
