IT'S casino time again down at the old village hall on Saturday, February 2. Life, they say, is a gamble, but people have very different ideas on what constitutes a gamble. Take the Southern gentleman who drawls "I'll stake mah whole plantation to save the good name of this lady, on the turn of the next card, suh". Or the folk who lay away until the early hours wondering if they have done the right think in changing the family's breakfast cereal.
Of course, on the night you bet with Monopoly money, so you can wager like an old stager. The idea being the gambler who amasses the greatest amount, wins a bottle of champagne. The evening also includes a buffet supper. The casino will open at 7.30pm. Posh frocks please! Tickets are £5, from Barbara Savery on 562904 or Pat O'Malley on 575682. To assist catering, please book tickets before Wednesday, January 30.
