A YOUTH group will be able to afford some computer equipment thanks to a Worcestershire-based charity.

The Spa Voluntary Youth Organisation Fusion has been granted £1,000 by The Margaret Westwood Trust to purchase the equipment.

Fusion is a youth organisation in Droitwich town centre which helps the under 25s in a range of health, social and economic problems.

The new computer will help Fusion run a more efficient organisation.

"Fusion is run by a group of professionals and youngsters," said Councillor Peter Pinfield, a trust board member of The Margaret Westwood Trust.

"They found out about us through local contacts such as the media and applied for a grant".

The Margaret Westwood Trust has helped disabled people in their homes to have special equipment, youngsters afford college tuition, Scout groups and youth organisations.

"I have been a board member of The Margaret Westwood Trust for eight years and have been able to give grants to different youth organisations," said Coun Pinfield, leader of the Labour Party in Droitwich.

"The other week we gave a grant of £500 to a youth group in Worcester's Dines Green for disco equipment".

The Spa Voluntary Youth Organisation has been going for around five years.

It's now a voluntary group run by police, social services, representatives from the health sector and youngsters.

"Fusion is a safe way of communicating for youngsters," added Coun Pinfield, who lives in the town.

"It's aimed at young people who don't go to traditional youth clubs.

"Growing up and becoming an adult is a very difficult time for young people.

"They need to have access to a confidential and professional advice service on a whole range of issues such as drugs, sexual and relationship patterns, homelessness and health in general.

"The fact that Fusion is partly run by the young people themselves is also a credit to the work being undertaken".

Any youth organisation or individual under the age of 25 who would like some financial help for a worthy cause is invited to contact Mr Pinfield at County Hall on 01905 763763.
