A FATAL accident near Upton-upon-Severn has prompted fresh calls for safety measures on the stretch.
The crash happened just after the Christmas period near Duckswich Farm on the A4104 Welland Road and saw Malvern couple Paul Kitsull and Cheryl Lewis killed.
Residents with access on to the road had previously called for the extension of the 40mph speed limit from Tunnel Hill to beyond their homes, but after a meeting with a representative of Malvern Hills Highways Partnership, it was decided this was not appropriate.
At that time it was suggested that residents should cut back their hedges to improve visibility, but this had not been done, Upton-upon-Severn town councillors heard.
Highways Partnership manager Mike Davis had written to say that a meeting would be arranged with the police to see whether any further safety measures were necessary once the investigation of the accident was complete.
An inquest into their deaths has been opened and adjourned.
