EVESHAM'S junior girls have again been in good form as they enjoyed success at the Head of the Avon Gorge race.

The 4/-mile row on a tidal river was one of the first major events attended by the latest group of 13-year-old girls to come up into the junior squad from the Project Oarsome Scheme being run by the club.

The crew of Sara Howe, Emma Purfield, Anna Chil-vers, Lucy Bunn and cox Kirsty Merchant, completed their winning row in a record time of 30 minutes and 51 seconds.

With near perfect river conditions, records were also achieved by the women's J15 quad of Vicky Dyster, Mary Dixon, Lizzie Johnson and Kate Wilkinson, the J15 double of Sarah Fisher and Becky Rutherford, and the J14 coxed quad of Emma Wooded, Cherrie Gayton, Lucy Berry and Leanne Townsend, coxed by Sam Fisher.

The following weekend saw the girls in action again, this time closer to home at the Upton Head.

With most of the younger girls rowing up two age groups to J15, the morning division recorded wins for the coxed quad of Becky Ruth-erford, Emma Purfield, Chloe Farrar, Kirsty Merchant and cox Sam Fisher, over teammates Sarah Fisher, Sara Howe, Becky Wood, Anna Chilvers and cox Catti Baird.

Not to be outdone by the girls, James Knowlden and Kevin Paxford also took first place in the men's Senior II pairs event.

With weather conditions growing ever colder and battling against a stiff headwind, the afternoon's action saw wins for the women's J14 double crew of Cherrie Gayton and Lucy Berry over teammates Emma Woodedd and Helen Gander.

Kate Wilkinson battled against teammate Vicky Dys-ter to take victory in the J15 single event.
