TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD: The first meeting of the Townswomen's Guild in 2002 was chaired by Mrs Meller, in the absence of Mrs Rubbra, who is recovering after a recent operation. She welcomed all members and visitors, Mesdames Evans, Horseman and Peach. A short silence was observed in memory of Mrs Joan Hodgkinson who died recently. For some years the choir rehearsals were held at her home, where she was their very able accompanist. Mrs Meller reported on the Christmas lunch held at the Vale Golf Club and congratulated the drama group on the excellent entertainment they provided. Mrs Lockhart mentioned that thanks for messages and support had been received from some members who had been ill or had falls. In anticipation of the AGM in March, members were reminded that nomination forms were available if they wished to put their names forward for the committee, also that subs are due in February of £12. It has been decided that a donation should be sent to the Abbey Appeal Fund for the Former Nave Project, in memory of past Guild members. The vice chairman asked for ideas from members regarding outings, the future programme and for this year's charity. She also gave a reminder that exhibits are needed for the Federation Craft Exhibition in June. Group meetings again include the choir, skittles and literary appreciation on February 4. A few seats are available for the Theatre outing to Malvern on January 30 when the coach will leave Broad Street at 1.15pm and Paddock Close at 1.20pm. After coffee members were greatly entertained by Sir M H Simms, who gave an enthralling talk on his life in the police force. It evoked memories of life in the 50s and 60s as he recounted both humorous and tragic tales about his service. Mrs Cummins gave the vote of thanks. A raffle was held which raised £64.65. The next meeting will be on February 5, in Wulstan Hall at 10am when Mrs Marion Freeman will give an illustrated talk about 'Bygone Pershore'. The sales table will be bottles and jars. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
