HEARTLESS vandals have run riot at a Kidderminster school, destroying a millennium garden which was put together following a fund-raising push by pupils.

Staff arrived at St Ambrose School, Leswell Street, on Tuesday morning to find yobs had rampaged through the garden, which also features a bench dedicated to the memory of the 12 children and a teacher who died in the 1993 Hagley High School minibus crash.

The hooligans smashed a concrete teddy bear, damaged plants and overturned a fountain.

Teacher Deanna Meade was a member of the committee set up to oversee the fund-raising for the garden, which she said had cost about £1,000 to put together.

She said: "I'm heartbroken. It's stupid, mindless vandalism."

Mrs Meade said the school's caretaker Les Jones had had to order intruders off the premises before but this was the first incident of its kind.
