BROMSGROVE Rovers joint manager Gary Hackett does not want his players to get carried away after the club's highest score for a decade.

The Greens tore through Shifnal Town 7-0 at the Victoria Ground on Saturday to close the gap on Midland Alliance leaders Stourbridge and although Hackett wants to savour the moment, he knows it is only one game.

Speaking before Tuesday's game with Stafford Town, he said: "We are keeping the pressure on Stourbridge but we need to keep everybody's feet on the ground.

"It was excellent but the most outstanding performance was the team as a whole. Myself and Jon Ford are satisfied with the outcome.

"There's still a long way to go and our job is to keep taking as many points as we can."

The joint manager also admitted how nice it was to sit back and watch his side dismantle the opposition.

He said: "Sometimes when you are three or four up you take your foot off the pedal but they didn't and it was good to watch."

"These games don't come along too often."

It was an amazing result for the Greens, even more so considering it came just days after the team was beaten 4-2 by visitors Feckenham in the Worcestershire Senior Urn.

Hackett said: "We wanted to try quite a few fringe players to give them the experience and we learned a lot but Tuesday is history.

"Feckenham took their opportunities and good luck to them."

Rovers boast a fully fit squad although they are still without Steve Pope, currently in the middle of a 70-day ban, and Joe Licata who has just started a 35-day suspension.

Saturday's visit to Rushall Olympic is off but Rovers travel to Stafford Town next Wednesday (7.45pm).
