ALCESTER residents can be safe in the knowledge their planning applications will be dealt with efficiently after Stratford Council leapt up a Government league table.
The council has moved up to its highest ever position on the table - 106 out of 297 authorities - for its continued improvement in performance when making decisions on planning applications.
Every six months, the Government publishes comparative tables which rank councils by the percentage of planning applications they determine within eight weeks.
Figures for the year ending September 2001 show Stratford decided 68.7 per cent of applications on time, compared to 55 per cent in 2000 and 49.7 per cent in 1999.
