A RUBERY girl has finished a fantastic 12 months by being crowned West Midlands County gymnastics champion.
Abigail Walker, aged 11, scooped first prize and the gold medal at level two, the highest level for her age group, at the county championships at Birmingham University last month.
The Waseley Hills High School pupil, of Segbourne Road, had to perform a routine on the bars, beam vault and floor to claim the trophy.
It has been a successful year for Abigail as she became Birmingham gymnastic champion, again at level two, for 2001 and represented the West Midlands in London at national level, placing her 27th in the country for her age group.
Her mum, Jacqueline, said: "She works hard but she really enjoys it."
Abigail is now preparing for another national event in Liverpool in March.
