A FORMER world ju-jitsu champion is taking advantage of Studley's new sports centre by setting up his own classes.
Steven Coates won gold in 1993 at the world ju-jitsu championships in the three-man event and was British middle-weight ju-jitsu champion in 1992.
He will hold an enrolment evening for his classes on Tuesday, January 29, at the new sports centre in Pool Road, which opens on January 25.
Students from Mr Coates' other classes will be holding a demonstration on that evening.
New membership costs £25 for a lifetime plus an annual licence fee for insurance and grade registration.
A free ju-jitsu uniform will be thrown in.
Mr Coates has been practising martial arts for more than 25 years.
Classes for juniors (minimum age eight years) will run from 6-7pm and cost £3.
Adult classes run from 7-8pm and cost £4.
