BROMSGROVE and Redditch Harriers enjoyed a fruitful outing at the Worcestershire Cross Country Championships at Halesowen.

Laura Kyte won the under17s Women event with a time of 21min40sec and teammate Adele Wylde came in second, 2min 40sec behind her.

But with three runners needed to place in the team event B&R were not eligible.

The area was well represented in the Senior Women's event with Alvechurch's Commonwealth Games hopeful Bev Hartigan breaking the tape.

The Birchfield Harrier finished after 21.31 and Redditch-based clubmate Cath Mijovic was second after 22.42.

B&R veterans Jane Anderson (13th) and Ann Stuart (15th) represented the club.

Bromsgrove and Redditch were runners-up in the u15 Boys team event with Matthew Addison (15.41) second, Joe Frascina (16.15) third, Tom Killigrew eighth, Damien Lewis 13th and Sam Bailey 15th.

Steph Lewis was runner-up in the u20 Women's race after 26.42 for B&R and club veteran Phil Carbutt was second in the Senior Men's after 37.51 to lead the team to fifth.

Ian Keyte (20th), Phil Anderson (42nd), Tony Woodward (46th), John Manley (47th) and Steve James (50th) made up the team.

Sarah Potter was first home in third (18.24) for the B&R team who came in fourth in the u15 Girls with Sarah Brakes 17th and Megan Fisher 18th.

And Sophie Laxton came home ninth in the u13 Girls for B&R with Alex Chapman 21st.

THE senior men had another disappointing day, finishing last at Coventry at the weekend.

The club has been hindered by the loss of internationals James Bowler, to a 12 month scholarship at Arkensaw University, and Adrian Passey, who has retired.

And after losing several runners to injury, star man Phil Carbutt had to drop out on the opening lap with a twisted ankle.

The club's scorers were Richard Malin (35th), Steve Clews (100th), Ian Keyte (110th), Kevin Lankham (120th), Phil Anderson (126th) and Steve Bach (134th) with Tony Woodward, Steve James, Gordon Marshall and Joe Blackburn competing the side.

B&R are bottom of Division One and certs for relegation ahead of the final Birmingham League meeting at Leek in March.

The club holds its AGM at the Ladybird Inn, Aston Fields, Bromsgrove, on Friday and sends a team to the Midland Veterans Cross Country Championship at Northampton on Sunday.
