AN Ipsley sailor came home fourth overall in the girls section of the 29er World Champion-ships in Sydney.

Teenager Elizabeth Peacock, and Stevenage partner Jo Skinner were fourth overall after qualifying for the silver field and finished 11th in their field and 36th overall.

The 17-year-old, competing for Great Britain in her first outing in the youth squad, qualified for selection in September before being one of three girls to qualify for a £1,500 grant from the Royal Yachting Association after qualifying events at Rutland and Weston.

The money, supplied by Volvo and the National Lottery allowed former British Junior Peacock to compete down under.

But the Arrow Valley High School student, who started at Redditch Sailing Club before jumping ship to Bartley Green, has decided to put her sailing ambitions on hold to concentrate on her A-levels and aim for a place at Southampton University.
