THIEVES who stole a charity collection box from a pub near Bromsgrove have been branded "heartless" by a man collecting cash in memory of his dead wife.
Leukaemia Re-search Fund collector John Marsden, of Doctors Hill, was shocked to discover thieves had stolen a collection box from the bar of The New Inn pub, in Bournheath.
Mr Marsden told the Advertiser/Messenger: "My wife, Jeanette, died from leukaemia 15 months ago so the Leukaemia Research Fund is something close to my heart."
The box, which Mr Marsden said would probably have contained about £10, was attached to a bar pump with a piece string.
He said the sneak thieves must have waited until staff were away from the bar to have had time to unwind it.
The incident happened on Sunday, January 6, some time beween 7pm and 8.30pm.
He added: "It makes me so cross because they are heartless. There are no values anymore.
"I take this personally because of my wife. I just wanted to give something back and I thank the managers of The New Inn and the Nailers Arms, where I also have a box, for allowing me to collect for the cause."
