A BROMSGROVE school has received a generous cash boost -- thanks to a successful village fundraiser.

Belbroughton First School has received almost £7,000 from cash raised at the annual scarecrow weekend, which took place last September.

The Bradford Lane school is to spend the money improving its information technology facilities, buying books and other equipment including a new overhead projector.

Headteacher Joan Holford said: "We are really grateful for the money as we would not be able to provide such good equipment for the children without it."

Thousands flocked to Belbroughton for the event, which raised around £16,000 for a number of worthwhile village causes.

Visitors enjoyed scarecrows lining the streets, and participated in a wide range of family activities, including a puppet show, exhibitions and tours of the village church.

Other groups to benefit from the event include Belbroughton brownies, the church hall and tennis club.

However, forward thinking villagers are now planning this year's event and people are already needed to help make the annual extravaganza bigger than ever.
