ECO-WARRIORS in Bromsgrove are hoping to be ringing the changes this New Year by asking residents to recycle their old Yellow Pages telephone directories.

Bromsgrove District Council is asking householders in the area to join the Yellow Pages recycling Campaign when new directories are distributed.

The new Birmingham South Yellow Pages with fluffy chicks on the cover, will be delivered across the Bromsgrove district this month, replacing the old fish-fronted addition.

The West Midlands South version will follow in May.

Cllr John Tidmarsh (Con, Stoke Prior), cabinet member responsible for environmental health, appealing to all residents, said: "There are 36,000 households in the Bromsgrove district.

"Each directory weighs about one kilo, that's at least 36 tonnes of paper that could be recycled if everybody participates.

"So please join the campaign and help us to help save the world's natural resources.

"The re-cycled directories will be converted into cardboard packaging and animal bedding." There are ten green Kappa recycling banks where paper or card can be deposited and each bearing a "Recycle Your Yellow Pages Here" sticker.

Residents in some parts of Bromsgrove can dispose of their directories through the kerbside collection of paper operated by Worcestershire Community Recycling.

Recycling containers in or near Bromsgrove are at Stourbridge Road car park, Stoke Prior Social Club, Westonhall Road, the Marlbrook, Birmingham Road, the Crown Inn and Swan Inn in Stourbridge Road, Catshill and Fairfield respectively, the Bell Inn, Stourbridge Road, Romsley, and the Talbot Hotel, Hartle Lane, Belbroughton.
