A SCHOOL which has seen more than 100 years of history, may be listed by the end of the year.

Members of Stoke Prior parish council are hoping Redgrove Senior School, formerly John Corbett School, will be listed as a protected building this year.

They have taken steps to see the Shaw Lane building listed by writing to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in London, who have since replied requesting more information including a map of its location and detailed photographs.

Parish council chairman Thelma Roll has enlisted the help of town photographer Max Harper to take professional pictures of the imposing Victorian brick building.

John Corbett owned the brine pits in Stoke Prior and built cottages and a school for his workers in the mid-nineteenth century.

Known as the "Salt King," he built the village school in 1850 as well as the well known Chateau Impney at Droitwich Spa.

The school is currently used to educate youngsters suffering with emotional and behavioural difficulties, however plans are being discussed to relocate it to a site in Redditch, which may leave the building vacant.

Parish councillors fear the building may become neglected or vandalised, so listing it will ensure it is protected.

Thelma Roll said: "If we want to keep these buildings we need to think along these lines.

"We need to keep them for future generations to appreciate."
