THE details of a £400,000 project to revamp the maternity unit at the Alexandra Hospital have been drawn up following a consultation exercise with patients, visitors and staff.
Within the next two months, en-suite showers will be built onto the wards and all the bathrooms will be refurbished.
Eight new state-of-the-art electronic delivery beds will be introduced to make labour more comfortable and the whole unit, which can become very hot, is to have air-conditioning installed.

The £400,000 cash boost came from the Government but had to be spent on specific improvements highlighted by patients and visitors.
