THE Redditch Big Hearts had their best year ever in 2001 after raising more than £5,000.

The charity fundraisers started in 1986 but excelled everything that had gone before last year to reward two organisations with huge cheques.

Presentations were held just before Christmas at Lodge Park Social Club when Alexandra Hospital's Macmillan Nurses and the Parkinson's Disease Society were handed their cheques of £2,571.

It is the first time the Big Hearts have decided to collect money for two charities and they intend to continue the trend this year.

The spokesman also thanked The Deputy Dog Line Dancers whose efforts added £2,000 to the fund and John Bennet and his Birmingham to Redditch bed pushers.

Donations of money or gifts can be made by sending them to the Eagle, Evesham Road, Crabbs Cross, Redditch.
