Evesham United produced by far their best display of the season to beat Mangotsfield United 3-1 in last night's Dr Martens Western Division game at Cossham Street.

Striker Richard Leadbeater scored twice to take his tally to three in the last two games, but it was a fine performance from all over the park, and Mangotsfield, who reached the fourth round of the FA Trophy last Saturday, were second best throughout.

The Robins were in front after only two minutes. Steve Lutz skipped down the right before crossing to Leadbeater who slid the ball home at the far post.

Home 'keeper Dave Dyson made two brilliant saves from Jay Powell and Andy Smith as 'Field were ran ragged during the opening exchanges. Further efforts from Shaun Pratt, Phil Preedy and Mark Wolsey were all just off target.

The home side came out for the second-half with more determination and equalised on 53 minutes through a clever finish by Adam Sims.

United responded in typical fashion of late with two goals in two minutes.

On the hour, Smith's cross was met by Leadbeater, who headed home from 10 yards.

Pratt then threaded a pass through to Lutz and he made no mistake with a cool finish past the advancing Dyson.

United were not content to sit on their lead and pushed forward in search of more goals. Dean Pendry cleared an effort from Steve Taylor off the line and Lutz headed Preedy's cross wide.

In the last minute Powell, who produced another towering performance in defence, made a wonderful last ditch tackle to deny Pendry, when he looked odds-on to score in front of an unguarded net.
