POPULAR striker Phil Stant has left Worcester City by mutual consent to join up with Neville Southall's Nationwide Conference outfit Dover Athletic.

The veteran forward proved a hit at St George's Lane, scoring 12 goals in 23 games including a hat-trick against Tiverton Town.

City boss John Barton paid tribute to the 39-year-old who helped the club through a difficult period after star striker Mark Owen broke his leg.

"Phil's contribution to the club has been massive both on and off the field, his commitment and enthusiasm has been top class, he has led from the front and played an important part in the development of our side," said Barton.

"For me personally he was a great to have around because he's been a manager and knows what is required and he did all the little bits and pieces that help make the job a bit easier.

"He's moved on for two reasons -- firstly to pursue his own career and secondly because we are now working towards developing the team for next season."

Stant is due to link up Dover on a similar arrangement to the non-contract basis he enjoyed at City but is still keen to get back into management or coaching, having had a spell in charge at Lincoln City last season.
