ON Friday afternoon, I was involved in a road accident when a delivery lorry attempted to overtake already fast moving traffic along the Alcester Road and collided with my car.

This was in a residential area of Studley with several adjoining side-roads.

Mercifully, I was unscathed but a few seconds or two feet further, and I would certainly have been killed outright.

Over the last year, your paper has devoted considerable space to often self-congratulatory quotes and reports of delaying and spoiling tactics of those groups and individuals who, for personal and political reasons, do not want to see the Studley bypass built.

They have objected to 'taking Studley traffic' and therefore will be interested to know that the lorry involved was based in Evesham and had no more connection with Studley than the vast majority of the other commuter traffic on the A435.

As a result of this, all the fully evaluated and costed plans for a bypass have now been reduced to vague and distant possibilities submerged in red tape.

I hope those who have been directly responsible for this are keeping a close eye on the mounting statistics of fatalities and accidents on this stretch of road over the last two years.

Their words and political games will strike a very hollow note with real families of real individuals who may yet still be killed on the A435.
