THE second phase of a major restoration project at a historic mansion near Droitwich Spa is under way.
Stunning 18th Century murals at Hanbury Hall, in School Road, are being painstakingly restored to their former glory.
The murals were painted by Sir James Thornhill in around 1710.
He later became famous for works at St Paul's Cathedral and Chatsworth House.
A survey in 2000 showed the murals were in poor condition and in need of stabilising before any further damage occurred.
The current work by Perry Lithgow Conservators will clean, stabilise and restore the historic paintings - protecting them for at least 50 years.
Renovation work kicked off last year and in 2002 the experts will concentrate on smaller but more detailed sections of the murals.
