TWO charitable Worcester brothers will be putting their talents to the test when they head for Mozambique on a 12-day trek.

Loyd and Mick Woodfield are among 25 British volunteers taking up the challenge of rebuilding war-damaged buildings.

The programme, on behalf of the charity Hope and Homes for Children, will see the volunteers trekking through four villages.

They will be using their skills to rebuild schools, churches and homes in the north of Mozambique.

"I am inspired by the events of September 11," said 53-year-old Loyd.

"With all its exposure, no one considers the plight of other areas of the world which need just as much support."

Worcester's branch of Blacks Camping and Leisure Ltd, has pitched in to help by supplying clothing and equipment for the trip, and Loyd's reflexologist wife Eileen will be on hand before the trek to play her part.

"We have an eight-week course of treatment with Eileen which will strengthen our muscles," said Loyd. "This will prepare us mentally and physically by boosting our immune systems, circulation, muscle strength and stamina.

"We see this as a personal challenge to utilise our skills in carpentry and roofing for the benefits of the less fortunate. This seems to be a more practical way of helping than just donating money."

Loyd, who is a general manager in the construction industry, and 51-year-old carpenter Mick need to raise £6,000 between them before they set off on Friday, June 24.

The cash will be used to pay for materials they will need for repairing the buildings.

Anyone who can help the brothers, who both live in Warndon Villages, should contact Loyd on 01905 613975 or 07967 171037.
