A WORCESTER company has invented a revolutionary new boat window tipped to deter vandals.

Worcester Marine Windows Ltd came up with the new system in response to the growing number of vandals who target boats when moored.

The new S-Type Window enables narrow-boat owners to quickly replace the window glass with a solid metal panel.

"This provides superb boat security and peace of mind whenever craft are left unattended in unsafe locations or over long periods of time," said Graham Munn, managing director of the company.

Mr Munn, a qualified engineer, invented the S-Type window himself after having a "brainwave" while pondering the vandal problem.

The whole idea behind the window hangs on the new catch design, which allows for the easy removal of the glass.

When closed, the catch fits absolutely flush inside the window frame, leaving no dangerous or unsightly projections into the cabin interior.

The in-fill panels can be decorated to suit the livery of the boat, in either traditional or modern style.

An additional benefit is that the window is clamp-fixed in position, eliminating the need to drill fixing holes into the hull.

The S-Type, which derives its name from its four main characteristics - simple, stylish, safe and secure - has already proved a great success, with orders being taken from private boat owners, boat builders and fleet hire companies across the Midlands.

"We've never been so busy," said Mr Munn.

"It's usually a quiet time in this industry but we're working overtime every day of the week."

Worcester Marine Windows Ltd, established in 1998, specialises in the production of windows for the inland waterway leisure craft industry, primarily narrow boats.

The company, based at Three Springs Trading Estate, Vincent Road, has established a reputation for the development of innovative and practical window products.

It is a major supplier to many of the specialist boat builders in the Midlands, and nationally.

Worcester Marine Windows' strategy is to work in partnership with all its clients, including trade customers and private boat owners, to provide the optimum solution for their needs.

The company will be exhibiting its new product at the National Boat, Caravan and Outdoor Leisure Show at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, from Saturday, February 16 to Tuesday, February 19.
