IF Monday night was anything to go by, Kidderminster Harriers can boast better future prospects than Division One side Grimsby Town.

This was clear as Harriers' part-time U-18s knocked their full-time opposition out of the FA Youth Cup with a 2-1 home win.

Ian Britton's teenagers continued their record-breaking run in the competition by reaching the fifth round and a trip to a big club in either Nottingham Forest or Watford.

Harriers, watched by a good crowd of 373, were stronger than Grimsby and fully deserved their win through two goals from impressive prospect Matt Lewis.

Boss Jan Molby tagged Lewis as a potential £1m player when he signed him from Coventry-based non-leaguers Marconi in the summer.

And the 17-year-old, who has already made two substitute appearances for the first team, was too much for the Grimsby defence.

Lewis put Harriers ahead with a confidently taken penalty in the fourth minute after Michael Glynn's shot was handled in a crowded area.

Grimsby looked surprisingly nervous but calmed down when Ross Thompson headed a soft equaliser on 21 minutes after keeper John Danby missed a Freddie Cass corner.

However, Harriers still enjoyed the better opportunities with midfielder Glynn, always ready to shoot from distance, firing over from 25 yards.

On 32 minutes, Lewis' strike partner Langford nipped onto a long ball from promising centre-back Inderpaul Khela.

The young forward bravely headed the ball past advancing keeper Morgan Cranley but Grimsby's Wes Parker did well to clear off the line.

There was no saving Cranley three minutes before half-time though when Lewis made what proved to be the winner look easy.

The visitors were slow to clear from the edge of the area and Lewis showed perfect technique to lash a rising ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Thompson's runs from midfield were a danger for Harriers and he clipped the top of the bar moments later from 25 yards.

But the home side could have increased their lead in the second half with the powerful Lewis rounding the keeper but being crowded out, shooting into the side netting and then later sliding a shot wide after a strong run.

Grimsby rapidly ran out of ideas though big front-man Darren Mansaram forced a useful diving save from Danby on 74 minutes with a 20-yard drive.

A Cass corner struck the near post on 83 minutes but Harriers otherwise rarely looked in danger.
