A MAN who allegedly locked himself in a house for more than four hours, armed with a knife, was still being quizzed by police today.

Around 40 officers, some heavily armed and with police dogs, were called to the scene in Dines Green, Worcester, on Friday after reports that a man was brandishing a knife.

The drama, which began about 1pm, finished just after 5pm after he walked out of the Tudor Way house holding his hands above his head.

Several officers pinned him to the floor before bundling him into a police van.

A police spokesman said paramedics had gone to the house to give a man medical assistance, but became concerned when he was seen with "a bladed instrument".

Police called a negotiator, and public order trained officers were at the scene.

As news of the siege spread, neighbours spilled on to the street and pupils at nearby Dines Green primary school were kept in the building.

The man appeared briefly at 3.40pm, wearing a crash helmet, but he gesticulated angrily at police before slamming the door. He gave up almost two hours later.

A police spokeswoman today confirmed that no one had yet been charged in connection with the incident and added that a man was still helping with enquiries.
