MORE than 100 swimmers and parents attended Droitwich Dolphins' annual presentation night.

Mayor Maureen Lawley and her husband, Cllr Don Lawley, made the presentations at the community hall, in Heritage Way.

They congratulated the club on its performance this year.

Under the new director of coaching, Brian McGuiness, Dolphins gained promotion to the Third Division of the Nuneaton League and after an outstanding performance in the Speedo League are waiting to hear if they are to move up a level.

The club's own championships have just finished and a record number of 370 individual medals were awarded from the age of eight through to adults.

More than 70 swimmers achieved county qualifying times during the competition.

Championship cups were awarded to Rachel Roberts, Ian James, Steven Snape, Alexandra Dunn, Alice Richardson, Kate Hull and Mark Draper.

The Victrix Ludorum was awarded to Rachel Roberts for her superb performance throughout the championship. The Victor Ludorum went to Ian James.

Individual awards were won by Euan McGuiness, Alexis Collier, Sam Fowles and Fiona Watt for their overall improvement in strokes and in their performance for the club.

The evening concluded with a special presentation to Gareth Holliday who has played a major part in the running of the club over the last ten years.

Chairman Vernon Fletcher paid tribute to him and swimmers and parents gave him presents.

His dedication and commitment is evident in the increasing numbers of youngsters wishing to join. He leaves the club as a thriving organisation both financially and in the quality of its swimmers.

The committee voted unanimously to award Gareth life membership in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the swimmers and the club.
