DROITWICH were boosted by the return of Ian Craig and Matt Blackmore and recorded a good win at Dunlop on December 22.

The home side started well with a number of attacks through the forwards but the Droitwich pack held firm and it led to an early penalty kicked by Blackmore.

Good running by Rob McClean kept the home side pinned in their half and Nick Grint was first to the ball after it squirmed out of a Dunlop scrum and he dived over to score the first try. A Blackmore drop goal increased the lead to 11-0. Dunlop then scored a try but missed the conversion.

Just before the break a mistake by the Dunlop pack allowed Droitwich to kick through and fly half Bruce Thomas scored a well deserved try.

Blackmore added the conversion to take Spa to an 18-5 lead at half time.

The second half saw Droitwich play 15-man rugby with Craig and Will Kurton combining well with Nick King.

Aide Spencer was throwing well in the line-outs and Gareth Knight made several breaks - one of which led to Nick Godfrey's converted try near the posts.

The pace of Spa's backs began to find roads through the defence. A 60-yard Jamie Faulkener run was stopped short of the line but skipper Jon Andrews picked up the ball and with an exaggerated dive scored from five yards. Blackmore again added the conversion.

McClean ran through to score in the corner and Blackmore booted two more penalties as Spa took complete control.

Grint then fed Thomas who threw an excellent pass out to McClean to score again. Mike Hobbs and James Wray both came on near the end to ensure a fine win.

The funniest moment of the game happened when Ian Williams walked off the pitch after thinking he had been sent off.

He had to be called back after the referee explained he had just told him to move away.
