Cropthorne: The bellringers and adult members of Cropthorne choir were entertained at the vicarage on New Year's Eve. Supper was served soon after evensong and the rest of the evening was spent in a very pleasant and social manner. Many indulged in draughts or dominoes, while some played billiards.

Rous Lench: No more council houses can be built at Rous Lench until there is an adequate supply there. This decision of the Ministry of Housing was made known to Evesham Rural District Council on Monday. The clerk, Mr C H Gardiner, said the ministry's letter stated that the water supply on the site was 'not entirely adequate' and that approval could not be given until the supply was satisfactory.

Evesham: Vale of Evesham householders are among more than 65,000 consumers served by the East Worcestershire Waterworks Company who will have to pay 15% more for their water from January 1. But the company has also decided to give consumers a bit of a bonus by dropping the £1.50 hosepipe and outside tap charge. The rise works out at about 1.2p in the pound. This means a household which paid 8p per month last year, will pay 9.2p this year.
