ANTI hunt campaigners claim they have video and photographic evidence of hunts not complying with regulations to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.

But the claims have been denied by Worcestershire Hunt spokesman Bob Brierley, who has challenged them: "Do whatever you wish, but be prepared for the consequences."

The Protect Our Wild Animals (POWA) group says its campaigners monitored the Worcestershire Foxhounds twice last month and were shocked.

It has compiled a report for the Worcester office of DEFRA - Department of Food and Rural Affairs - and plans to send one to minister Elliot Morley.

"They appear to be completely ignoring foot-and-mouth regulations," said POWA spokesman Maurice Brett.

"There was no evidence of disinfecting at any time. Hunt supporters' vehicles hadn't been cleaned and hunt riders, hounds and foot followers crossed farms at will, even passing through fields of cattle and sheep.

"At no time were supporters requested to remain on public highways or footpaths as required by DEFRA. Other POWA groups are reporting similar behaviour by hunts around the country. It seems hunts are willing to show contempt for farmers and landowners as well as the public."

He added that the group had gathered eyewitness accounts, photographic and video evidence.

Mr Brierley insisted all those who hunt had to sign a declaration.

"This includes things like us agreeing to stay in a clean area and that our vehicles have not been used for the transportation of animals with cloven hooves," he said.

"I'd say to this group, do whatever you wish but be prepared for the consequences. Get your facts right if you're going into print to say we aren't abiding by the rules and regulations and make a definitive statement.

"We're constantly monitored - and encourage this - by protesters and DEFRA. We've absolutely nothing to hide."
