TILLS in Worcester's stores kept on ringing yesterday as thousands of shoppers flocked to the city for the seasonal sales scramble.
"One store sold more Christmas cards on December 27 than they did in a whole week before Christmas," said Trevor Lloyd-Adams, manager of the CrownGate shopping centre.
"The car park was full by 11am, which is an indicator that the stores were having a good day.
"There were an awful lot of people around spending in the CrownGate and High Street."
Mr Lloyd-Adams said people were eager to start spending after two days at home, shrugging off fears of an impending recession.
"This is a nation of shoppers who like bargains," he said.
He estimated the spending spree would last until January 4 or 5.
"After that the kids will go back to school and things will start to settle down," he said.
