MIDFIELD ace Darren Middleton refuses to write off Worcester City's season despite a run of poor results and performances.

The 22-year-old, currently sidelined with a knee injury, believes City can still turn their fortunes around and said morale in the dressing room remains positive.

"Everyone is still upbeat and this is an important time for us," he said.

"If we can pick up a few results in the run up to Christmas and get a good run going in the second half of the season it could still be an exciting time especially if we bring in some new signings."

City's poor form has seen them win just three of their last 11 matches although they have been beaten just once in the league at St George's Lane.

Middleton has blamed poor form on the loss of key players and suspensions but remains confident City can still do well in the Dr Martens Premier Division.

"I think morale is still quite high despite some poor results recently.

"The lads are disappointed but are still bonding together. Obviously it is different when you are wat-ching but the spirit is still very much there and there is no bitchiness.

"We are just waiting to turn the corner. I don't think injuries and suspension have helped and they've all struck at important times.

"Plus we've had a clutch of cup games in November which is a hard month."

Middleton blames the loss of key players and confidence for the dip in City's form.

"We're missing different players and some of the lads have lost confidence along the way but we can still turn it around."

As they bid to get their season back on track City boss John Barton is demanding greater consistency from his players in a bid to achieve better results.

"It's not about putting in one good performance in four or five it's doing it every game.

"If you play 40 games over a season you need to be performing at a decent level in at least 30 of those," he said.
