CHRISTMAS shoppers hoping to find last-minute bargains in Worcester can help the homeless at the same time.

The Chamber of Commerce Herefordshire and Worcestershire is throwing open the doors to its car park to ease weekend congestion and raise money for the Worcester City Mission.

Drivers will be charged £3 for half-a-day's parking and £5 for a full day.

"The Worcester City Mission, a charity dedicated to helping the homeless and misplaced in the community will supervise at the 35-space car park, located behind the Chamber's Castle Street headquarters," said Peter Morgan, spokesman for the Chamber.

"Proceeds will be used to help Worcester residents suffering economic disadvantage through providing clothing, furniture and food parcels."

Worcester City Mission was set up in April last year, as part of a network of charities launched in London after the First World War.

Missions are now open in almost every city in Britain.

The car park, which is an addition to the former Worcester Cattle Market and Perdiswell park-and-ride sites, will be open for the next three Saturdays.
