PERHAPS the Rev D G Griffin hasn't perceived that religious confrontation and disharmony exactly suits the purpose of those who have hijacked a religion with the same impunity with which they expected to hijack airliners.

Happily, not all theologians are as nave. I recently heard from a Presbyterian minister friend whose reaction to the events of September 11 was to visit a mosque.

The Islamic leader was then invited to his church to address and enlighten his congregation and answer their questions. A harmonious relationship has resulted.

This seems to me a much more positive approach than the dogmatic ranting of our crusading cleric.
