WARNING signs are to be put up in a bid to slow down traffic on the main road between Malvern and Led-bury, near British Camp.

Herefordshire Council has agreed that a section of the road near Beacon Cottage on the A449 is an accident cluster site.

Four personal injury accidents have occurred in the past five years.

The move follows a campaign by residents for a 30mph speed limit to be put in place on the de-restricted road to make it safer for pedestrians as well as road-users.

Kerry Savage, owner of the Tollhouse, which fronts the road near British Camp, even painted his home bright yellow in October to try and warn drivers to slow down after a motorcyclist lost his arm in an accident there.

Herefordshire Council's head of engineering and transportation, Stephen Oates, confirmed this week that signs were planned at two sites along the road.

Chevrons and advance warning signs will be erected near Beacon Cottage.

More hazard warnings will be put in place near the British Camp Hotel, where the Malvern Hills Conser-vators have a car park for walkers.

The work will be carried out early in the New Year and is expected to be complete by March.
