Just after 3pm on Sunday, November 25, some 20 people stood on the steps of the footbridge at Malvern Link station, sheltering from heavy rain as they awaited their train for London. A few yards away stood the perfectly good waiting room, locked and unuseable, presumably because of fears of vandalism as the station was then unmanned.

Is it really beyond the resources of Railtrack to find someone to open the waiting room and keep an eye on the station at such times, so that passengers can shelter from the elements in reasonable comfort?

While on the subject of transport, can someone please sort out the farcical procedures at the barrier to the Waitrose car park? Time and again a driver arrives and has to queue while the entrance barrier goes up and down issuing tickets to incoming drivers. These tickets are supposedly needed to get out, either by paying, showing a Waitrose receipt, or - and this might be better publicised - by showing an MHDC parking disc.

On exit, as often as not, the barrier is up and there is no one in the kiosk, so that the whole exercise has been pointless. This is particularly irritating on busy days like Friday, when the line of cars queuing (unnecessarily) for entry can sometimes stretch halfway down the approach ramp.

If the system is needed at all, let it be managed consistently. If not, let's take out the barriers for good and allow a free flow of traffic and fewer frayed tempers!
