A MALVERN man drove his 4x4 vehicle over land as a shortcut to a car park.

Droitwich magistrates heard that Kevin Parker was driving along Townsend Way, in Malvern Link, on Tuesday, September 25.

He saw his friends in the Halfords car park.

"A special constable was outside the Halfords store," said Peter Parsons, prosecuting.

"He saw a vehicle being driven over the top of an embankment. Tyre marks were found on the grass as a result.

"The officer spoke to the driver and pointed out the offence. Mr Parker said he saw no signs to say he couldn't drive on the grass."

Twenty-three-year-old Parker, of Moat Crescent, Malvern, admitted driving on land which was not part of a road.

"It's a straightforward matter," said Richard Wilkes, defending.

"He took a very short shortcut going into the car park. He saw some friends and wished to go and see them.

"He accepts he was wrong and there's no accusation of being dangerous."

Parker, who recently got married, was fined £100 and ordered to pay £35 costs.
